Ginger Hibiscus

Ginger Hibiscus

Ingredients:

  • 1 cups Makomas dried hibiscus flowers
  • 1 quart cold water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon grated fresh ginger root
  • ½ cup lemon juice

Directions:

  1. Slightly rinse the dried flowers in cool water.
  2. In a saucepan heat two quarts of water. As soon as the water begins to boil, add the dried hibiscus. Immediately remove from heat.
  3. Add the grated fresh ginger root to the mixture and let it steep for 15 minutes.
  4. Strain well using a strainer lined with a cheesecloth to separate the flowers from the water.
  5. Stir in the sugar.
  6. Add any other flavorings (if desired).
  7. Served over ice.

Hibiscus  Iced Tea

Hibiscus Iced Tea

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Organic Makomas dried hibiscus flowers, rinsed
  • 4 cups water, divided
  • 1/3  cup sugar

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan on high heat, bring hibiscus flowers, 2 cups of water, and sugar to a boil.
  2. Cover and simmer over medium-low heat for 20 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and allow to come to room temperature.
  4. Using a colander, strain out the hibiscus flowers. Note: You can save the strained flowers to make candied hibiscus flowers
  5. Add the remaining 2 cups of water.
  6. Stir and chill.
  7. Serve over ice.

Candied Hibiscus Flowers

Candied Hibiscus Flowers

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Organic Makomas dried hibiscus flowers that have been steeped to make hibiscus tea (make this a link to the hibiscus tea recipe)
  • 1 egg white
  • ¼ Cup sugar

Directions

  1. On a baking sheet line a sheet of parchment paper.
  2. Soak flowers in the egg white. Make sure that the egg white touches all flowers.
  3. In a bowl place sugar and gently coat the flowers in the sugar.
  4. Spread the flowers on the parchment paper. Make sure that the flowers don’t touch each other.
  5. Bake at 200 degrees for 2-3 hours or until crispy.
  6. Store in an airtight container.
  7. Enjoy!
Note:More sugar can be added depending on how sweet you like your candies

Blueberry Hibiscus Popsicles

Blueberry Hibiscus Popsicles

Ingredients

  • ½  cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 tablespoons Organic Makomas dried hibiscus flowers
  • 1 ½  cups water (heated to boiling)
  • 1 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoons fresh lime juice (optional)

Directions

Step 1:
  1. Reserve half of the blueberries and place the 2nd half in a heatproof container.
  2. Add hibiscus flowers and boiling water to blueberries container.
  3. Steep, uncovered, for 10 minutes.
  4. Drain mixture and discard solids.
  5. Add sugar to hibiscus-blueberries mixture
  6. Stir to dissolve.
  7. Stir in lime juice (optional).
  8. Refrigerate the mixture for at least 1 hour.
Step 2:
  1. Divide remaining blueberries between popsicle molds.
  2. Pour hibiscus mixture into popsicle molds.
  3. Cover tops of molds with foil.
  4. Insert wooden stick through foil.
  5. Freeze until solid for 5-7 hours.

Pineapple Hibiscus Drink

Pineapple Hibiscus Drink

Ingredients

  • 8 cups of water
  • 1 cup Organic Makomas dried hibiscus flowers
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • ½ pineapple
  • ice (optional)

Directions

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Place the dried hibiscus leaves in a heat proof container.
  3. Pour the hot water on top of the dried flowers. Let them steep for about ten minutes.
  4. Add the washed and sliced pineapple and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  5. Strain the drink into another container.
  6. Add the sugar and mix until the sugar is all dissolved. Adjust sugar to your taste.
  7. Add the remaining 4 cups of water (cold).
  8. Leave the drink in the fridge until completely cold.
  9. Mix just before ready to serve.
  10. You may serve it as is or with ice.

Hibiscus Syrup

Hibiscus Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Organic Makomas dried hibiscus flowers, rinsed
  • 1 cup water, divided
  • 1 cup sugar

Directions:

  1. In a large saucepan on high heat, bring hibiscus flowers and ½ cup of water to a boil.
  2. Cover and simmer over medium-low heat for 20 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and allow to come to room temperature.
  4. Using a colander, strain out the hibiscus flowers.
  5. Add the remaining 1 cup of water and sugar
  6. Bring it to a boil for about 10 minutes, until desire thickness
Note: You can save the strained flowers to make candied hibiscus flowers  

Hibiscus Ice Cubes

Hibiscus Ice Cubes

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. In a container, add the cold water to the hibiscus syrup and mix it well
  2. Store this mixture into ice cube trays
Tip: add it to iced tea, lemonade, cocktails, sparkling water, etc.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of Organic Makomas Baobab Fruit Powder
  • 10 frozen strawberries
  • ½ cup yogurt
  • 1/4 tbsp of honey

Directions

  1. In a blender, combine all ingredients.
  2. Cover and blend until smooth.
  3. Pour and serve immediately with your favorite toppings.
  4. Enjpy!

  •  8 oz glass of water
  • 2 tbsp spoons of Organic Makomas Baobab Fruit Powder

Directions

  1. Add Baobab powder to the water.
  2. Stir and enjoy!

Banana Baobab Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana
  • ¼ cup of almond milk
