Sorghum, also known as milo, is an ancient nutrient-rich cereal grain colored white or yellow. Although sorghum is less known in the Western world, it’s the fifth most produced cereal crop in the world, with an annual production of around 57.6 million tons. Farmers favor this crop due to its tolerance to drought, heat, and various soil conditions.
MAKOMAS Sorghum Flour is finely ground from the small round, whole grain kernel of sorghum. Our Sorghum Flour is an excellent gluten free replacement for wholegrain flour. Sorghum is known to be rich in B vitamins and minerals like magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc. It’s likewise an excellent source of fiber, antioxidants, and protein. Nutritionally, sorghum is known to be a better source of protein and fiber than rice flour.
Sorghum Flour bakes up with a lovely fluffy texture, wonderful for cookies, cakes, and sweet breads. Sorghum Flour is gluten free, dairy free, nut free, corn free, and soy free. You can substitute 1 cup of Sorghum Flour for 1 cup of all-purpose or whole wheat flour, but be sure to add a binder. If you want to increase your daily intake of whole grains, add 15% to 20% sorghum flour to your flour mixes to make delicious breads, cakes, and cookies.

Our emphasis on small-scale sustainable organic farming practices helps the environment by promoting soil regeneration as well as protecting biodiversity.
Our Commitment to the Highest Ethical Standards
MAKOMAS products are sourced from small farms in West Africa where rigorous standards insure that only the highest quality organic ingredients go into the making of our products. But, we haven’t forgotten the women farmers who toil in the fields to produce our raw materials. To that end we have created the MAKOMAS Foundation, a charitable arm of our company. With every purchase you make, you also give back to the women farmers who are so deserving of our support.
